One of the highlights of each week at FBCS is chapel. Chapel, both for the elementary students and for the middle students, is a powerful opportunity for our students to learn more about the Lord and His Word, to grow in knowledge of His character, and to support each other through prayer as well as to share in worship.
The entire K-8 student body, faculty and staff gather together in the church auditorium every Wednesday beginning at 8:30 a.m. for a time of corporate worship before splitting for the Bible lessons. Students from each grade take turns on a rotating basis leading the flag and Bible pledges as well as opening in prayer. Worship is led by our middle school worship team.
After worship and any announcements, the middle school students are dismissed for a separate Bible lesson at their age level. Different male speakers, including First Baptist Church pastors and elders, expound on Biblical truths and challenge the students to apply those truths within the school community and in their lives beyond the school. The elementary students remain in the auditorium and are taught by the administrator or a visiting missionary or special speaker when available.
During the months of February and March, each class is responsible for planning, preparing and presenting the complete chapel experience including pledges, prayer, choice of worship music and the Bible lesson. Frequently, the lesson is conveyed through one or more skits that involve every student in the class. Complete with costumes and humor, the lessons always leave a lasting impression.
Parents are more than welcome to join us for Chapel!
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
