Our History

First Baptist Christian School opened its doors for the first time in the fall of 1985, the result of fervent prayer and dedicated effort by its founders, member(s) of the church. The school was created to provide a loving, Christ-centered environment for learning, grounded in the unchanging truth of God’s Word. Its mission was to reinforce the Christian values being taught in students’ homes and churches.

In its first year, First Baptist Christian School enrolled 42 students in grades K5 through 6th, with several combined classes due to the small class sizes. By the end of that first school year, the School Committee voted to expand the academic program to include 7th and 8th grades. Since then, the facilities have grown to support the school’s mission, now featuring a total of 10 classrooms, a library, gymnasium, computer room, and a combined art room/science lab.

We are deeply grateful to the Lord for the many blessings He has bestowed on the school throughout the years. In the 1992-93 school year, FBCS became a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). The school remains a ministry of First Baptist Church of Weymouth. The School Committee sets and maintains the standards for the school but is ultimately accountable to the Board of Elders of the church.

FBCS offers a Christ-centered education paired with strong academic programs for elementary and middle school students. Our school community includes families from across the South Shore. As a non-profit Christian school, FBCS welcomes students from a wide range of church backgrounds.

Facilities

FBCS is located in the education building of the First Baptist Church campus. In addition to ten individual classrooms, shared areas include a full gymnasium, library, art room, computer lab and lunchroom. The First Baptist Church sanctuary is used for weekly chapels and special school productions, such as Grandparents Day, Christmas and Spring musical programs and year-end graduation.

School Committee

First Baptist Christian School is governed by a committee, appointed by and under the supervision of the Board of Elders of First Baptist Church.

The Committee meets regularly each month and other times as needed. Parental concerns may be submitted in writing for the Committee’s information and/or consideration.

What We Believe

Statement of Faith Approved April 25, 2021

Article 1 The Scriptures
We teach that the Holy Bible is God’s Revelation written by men divinely inspired and stands as sufficient infallible heavenly instruction in its entirety (1). It has God for its author, His glory as its aim, salvation for its end (2), and inerrant truth for its matter (3). It reveals the principles by which God will judge all mankind (4) and is the eternal supreme authority by which all human conduct, creeds, councils, opinions, and traditions are in submission (5).

Article 2 God
We teach that there is one, and only one, living and true God. He is Spirit, entirely infinite, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent; the creator, sustainer, and supreme ruler of Heaven and Earth (6); inexpressibly glorious in holiness (7) and worthy of all honor, faith, and love (8). He is one in essence, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (9); equal in every divine attribute (10). Each member of the godhead executes distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption and are equally worthy of worship and obedience (11).

Article 2.A Concerning God the Father
We teach that God the Father, the first Person of the Trinity, decrees and disposes all things according to His own purpose and grace (12). As the absolute and omnipotent ruler in the universe, He is sovereign in creation, providence, and redemption (13).

Article 2.B Concerning Jesus Christ
We teach the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ (14), His Virgin birth (15), His sinless life (16), His miracles (17), His substitutionary and atoning death through His shed blood (18), His bodily resurrection and ascension to the right hand of the Father (19), and His coming personal return in power and glory (20).

Article 2.C Concerning the Holy Spirit
We teach the deity of the Holy Spirit (21). As the supernatural and sovereign agent in regeneration (22), He baptizes all believers into the Body of Christ at the moment of salvation (23). The Holy Spirit also indwells, sanctifies, instructs, empowers them for service, and seals them unto the day of redemption (24). It is the duty of every believer to live a Spirit-controlled life (25).

Article 3 The Fall of Man
We teach that God completed His creation in six literal, twenty-four hour days (26), and that on the sixth day He created man in His own image, free from sin and for the purpose of His glory (27). Furthermore, He created mankind to be distinctly male and female (28), and He instituted marriage to be between one naturally born man and one naturally born woman (29). By intentional rebellion, the first man Adam and his wife Eve, fell from a holy and perfect communion with God into sin (30). As a result of Adam’s rebellion all mankind has been corrupted, so that they are sinners by nature and by choice (31) utterly void of the holiness required by God (32). Therefore, mankind is justly condemned to Hell, without defense or excuse (33).

Article 4 Election
We teach that election is the eternal decree of God, whereby He graciously regenerates and sets apart sinners for salvation (34). It is a glorious display of God’s sovereign goodness (35), that utterly excludes boasting, and promotes humility, love, prayer, praise, and trust in God (36). Sovereign election does not contradict or negate the responsibility of man to repent and trust Christ as Savior and Lord. (37) However, God’s sovereign choice will result in what He has determined (38).

Article 5 Regeneration
We teach that regeneration is a sovereign act of God whereby the Holy Spirit makes a dead sinner alive through the instrumentality of the Word of God (39). This takes place instantaneously at salvation and its proper evidence is repentance, faith, and newness of life (40).

Article 6 Salvation
We teach that the salvation of sinners is the sovereign and independent work of God’s grace (41), through the mediatorial offices of the Son of God (42). He, by the appointment of the Father, freely took upon Himself our nature, yet without sin (43); honored the divine law by His personal obedience (44), and in His substitutionary death made a full atonement for our sins by satisfying God’s wrath upon the cross (45). Having risen from the dead, He is now enthroned in heaven (46); and is in every way qualified to be the only suitable, compassionate, and all-sufficient Savior (47). This glorious gospel message is offered freely to all people, everywhere (48), and effected in all who repent of their sins and trust in Christ by faith (49).

Article 7 Justification
We teach that justification is the judicial declaration of God (50) whereby He pardons sin and declares righteous all those who repent of their sins (51) and in faith confess Jesus as Lord (52). This act of God is bestowed, not upon consideration of any works of righteousness which we have done, but solely upon faith alone in the completed work of Christ (53). God justifies man by imputing our sin to Christ, and imputing Christ’s perfect righteousness to us (54), whereby we have peace and favor with God (55), and are confident of every other blessing needed for time and eternity (56).

Article 8 Sanctification
We teach that sanctification is the process by which we are being conformed to the image of Christ. (57). It is a progressive work (58) that begins at regeneration (59) and is carried on in the hearts of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God, and is evidenced by regular self-examination, obedience, repentance, and prayer (60).

Article 9 Perseverance of Saints
We teach that only the elect will endure to the end (61) and that their continued union with Christ is the defining mark which distinguishes them from false converts (62). Almighty God watches over their welfare (63) and they are kept by His power through faith unto salvation, until the day they are glorified in Heaven (64).

Article 10 The Local Church
We teach that a visible Church of Christ is a congregation of born-again believers who observe the ordinances of Water Baptism and The Lord’s Table. (65) They are associated with one another through mutual covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel (66). They live in devotion to Christ (67), exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by the Holy Spirit and The Word of God (68). The officers of the local church are Elders (Pastors) and Deacons, whose qualifications, claims, and duties are defined in Scripture (69).

Article 11 Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
We teach that Christian Baptism is the immersion in water of a believer (70), in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (71); to show, in a solemn and beautiful emblem, our death to sin, resurrection to a new life, and our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior (72). The Lord’s Supper is an ordinance in which the members of the Church, by the symbolic use of bread and the cup, commemorate together the sacrifice of Christ until His return (73). This is always preceded by solemn self-examination (74).

Article 12 Civil Government
We teach that each church is independent and autonomous and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority (75). Civil government is of divine appointment for the interests and good order of human society (76). Magistrates are to be prayed for, conscientiously honored, and obeyed (77); except only in things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ (78) who is the only Lord of the Church, the conscience, and the kings of the earth (79).

Article 13 Last Things
We teach that at death the soul of the redeemed passes immediately into the presence of Christ (80), while the souls of the unsaved are kept under punishment until the second resurrection (81). The Lord Jesus Christ will return for His church personally, imminently, and bodily before the Great Tribulation (82); after which He will return to Earth to establish His Millennial Kingdom (83). Christ’s millennial reign will conclude with the bodily resurrection of all mankind, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment (84). Finally, the Lord will establish new heavens and a new earth wherein righteousness dwells forever (85). Amen (86).
